His blindness is all he’s ever known,
A malfunction in his genome.
His hearing strong and intelligence high,
Nothing escapes him passing by.
Faithful and loyal that’s you,
My dearest friend and true.
Gently guiding my hand with your nose,
To stroke, your head as the day goes.
What seems like darkness, displays a true light,
Your other senses making up for lost sight.
I find harmony in our unique dialogue,
To me, you are more than just a dog.
Nothing to pity, no need to fret,
Your birth was not something to forget.
It would have been easy for some to erase you,
And miss the beauty of knowing your joy each day anew.
I hear yelps of delight when the key is turned,
To see your greeting, Oh how my heart yearns.
I am protected by your guard,
To give you my heart has never been hard.
