Oh my…
She’s grown.
It seems like only yesterday
the seed of her conception was sewn.
Her first breath expressed,
Her first steps sped into
a toddling along.
Now to the years of young womanhood
she belongs.
Humm…
I look into her eyes and I see
that she’ll achieve far greater things than we
who are part of her history.
I’m hoping we’ve left her a better legacy.
Oh my,
Ready and eager
Talented and smart.
She’s been far more aware of her impact
on the world from the start,
than we… were able to have known.
Standing up and standing out,
Her voice you will not quiet
with your victimisation, inequality, racism and that lark.
Oh my,
Look at what she has already achieved,
Working towards her unfolding self.
Not afraid to ignore the old fashion choices,
the failed boxes on life’s proverbial shelf.
She knows more than we
that she’s not a cog in the system.
No,
far more she sees.
I hope…
that I have given her the foundation
to build the future we…
failed to achieve.
Oh my…
In to the future
Young woman with my blessing…
Go.
